Narok, Kenya – Narok South Sub County achieved the highest tree planting numbers in Narok County, planting 91,650 seedlings during the National Tree Planting Day. This accomplishment placed them at the forefront among the eight sub-counties in the region.

According to Kenya News Agency, Narok South was followed by Narok East Sub County with 49,800 seedlings, Narok North (10,055), Narok West (31,605), Narok Central (2,500), Trans Mara South (15,380), Trans Mara West (21,115), and Trans Mara East (5,242). The county’s various departments, including the Youth Office, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and prisons, were commended for planting trees on their premises.

Key partners in the tree planting activities included the Kenya Rural Roads Authority, Kenya Revenue Authority, Net Fund, Kenya Water Towers Authority, Eden Restoration Organisation, Kenya Industrial Estates, and the Kenya Diary Board. Masinde emphasized the opportune timing of the tree planting, coinciding with the ongoing El Nino rains, which will aid in the growth of the newly planted trees.

At Narok GK Prison, in Charge Benson Lomeri reported planting 2,300 tree seedlings, including pine and acacia-xanthophloea, which are well-suited to the local environment. Narok Senior Counsel at the ODPP, Duncan Ondimu, and Narok Youth Director Joash Ratemo also contributed by planting 100 tree seedlings each at the Information Office and Youth Office premises, respectively. The county’s major tree planting event was led by Principal Secretary in Charge of Investment and Trade Abubakar Hassan and Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu at Enosupukia Forest in Narok East.
