NAROK: In response to recent flash floods in Narok County, the local government is actively registering affected persons to provide necessary support. The County Executive Committee Member in charge of Administration and Devolution, Josephine Ngeno, announced that most impacted areas include Nairegie Enkare and Suswa in Narok East Sub County, where several houses have been submerged.
According to Kenya News Agency, Working closely with the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), the county government aims to support those impacted by the rains to resume normal life. Ngeno highlighted that four villages have been severely affected, with houses submerged and significant land damage due to deep cracks.
"The floods have drastically disrupted lives, displacing many," Ngeno said. To mitigate the impact, the county government plans to distribute food, bedding, and other essential items. She also advised residents in danger zones, such as slopes and swamps, to move to higher grounds and urged parents to keep a close watch on their children.
Ngeno praised KRCS's vital role in disaster mitigation, particularly in registering flood victims. A toll-free number (0800722984) has been provided by the county government for the public to seek assistance in emergencies.
This proactive approach by the Narok government is crucial in managing the aftermath of the flash floods, ensuring safety and providing relief to the affected communities.
