Narok: Seven individuals were apprehended in Narok town for violating alcoholic drinks regulations during a targeted operation by a multi-agency team.
According to Kenya News Agency, the enforcement effort was conducted by officers from the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), National Police Service, and the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA). The operations, spearheaded by NACADA South Rift regional manager Robert Olweny, focused on ensuring compliance with the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act across various premises in the town. Olweny expressed concerns over the lack of full compliance at several locations, which led to the temporary closure of those establishments until they adhered to regulations.
The crackdown highlighted a specific issue with some outlets selling alcoholic beverages before legally permitted hours and allowing consumption on the premises, contrary to regulations that require alcohol to be consumed off-site. Narok Central Assistant C
ounty Commissioner Abdi Shakur Ali noted that the arrested individuals included managers and sellers who had directly flouted these laws.
Shakur also emphasized the ongoing nature of these inspections and warned local alcohol dealers to maintain vigilance and adhere to all stipulated public health standards and legal requirements, including distance restrictions from schools and churches.
