NAROK – Governor Patrick Ntutu of Narok County has initiated the distribution of a Sh92 million worth of drugs to 133 health facilities across the county. This significant healthcare boost aims to enhance the availability and accessibility of medical services for the local population.
According to Kenya News Agency, the procurement of these medical supplies was facilitated through the Kenya Medical Supply Agency (KEMSA) and is set to benefit all health facilities spread across the eight sub-counties of Narok. Ntutu emphasized that the drugs would be provided free of charge to patients, with the exception of those seeking services at level four and five hospitals, where the drugs will be available at a subsidized cost.
Highlighting his commitment to fulfilling his healthcare promises to the Narok residents, Ntutu pointed out the increased patient turnout at local hospitals over the past year—a trend he attributes to the enhanced healthcare services and the establishment of additional health facilities within the county. He proudly noted the construction of 44 new health facilities, which are soon to be operational, as part of the county’s efforts to improve healthcare access and quality.
The governor also announced plans to recruit more medical personnel to cater to the growing healthcare needs of the county’s population. He stressed the importance of accountability and integrity among healthcare workers, urging the public to report any instances of misconduct, particularly concerning the sale of government-provided drugs.
Antony Namunguk, Narok Executive Committee member in charge of Health, affirmed that all government health facilities in the county are well-stocked with medicines, which are distributed free of charge to patients. He also noted that immunization services for children are offered at no cost, underscoring the county’s commitment to public health.
The event saw the flagging off of eight lorries loaded with medical supplies, destined for the various health facilities across the eight sub-counties, marking a significant step forward in Narok County’s healthcare service delivery.
