Nanso Calls on Kunene Youth to Prioritize Safety During School Holidays

Kunene: The Namibia National Students Organisation (Nanso) in the Kunene Region has urged young people in the region to prioritize safety, discipline, and personal development during the school holidays. Speaking to Nampa, Nanso Kunene regional secretary of sports and culture, Martinez Tjitjekura Kavetu, emphasized that school holidays should not be associated with reckless behavior, alcohol misuse, violence, or activities that could negatively affect the future of young people. According to Namibia Press Agency, Kavetu encouraged learners to make responsible decisions and participate in activities that contribute positively to their growth and development. 'Nanso Kunene Region's message to young people is: prioritize your safety, make responsible choices, and represent your community with pride,' Kavetu said. The student leader further highlighted the importance of sports and cultural activities in keeping young people focused and away from harmful influences. Kavetu noted that activities such as football , netball, traditional dance, music, and debate help promote discipline, teamwork, leadership, and respect among the youth. These activities also play a crucial role in identifying talent and building confidence among learners. 'As part of its youth empowerment initiatives, Nanso in Kunene is preparing to host the Kunene regional debate competition during the early part of the second school term.' The competition aims to strengthen critical thinking and public speaking skills among learners across the region. Outjo Senior Secondary School won last year's competition, while Mureti High School finished as runner-up. Kavetu encouraged schools across Kunene Region to participate in this year's event as part of efforts to expand educational and leadership opportunities for young people. He also reiterated the importance of continued support for school-based sports and cultural activities during and beyond the holiday period. Meanwhile, Kavetu called on parents, communities, and local leaders to work together in guiding and supporting young people. He stressed that creating safe environments and investing in youth development programs would help young people thrive and contribute positively to their communities.
