Windhoek: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has said the perpetrators behind the murder of prosecutor Justine Shiweda will face the full weight of the law, stressing that attacks on officers of the law constitute an attack on the Republic of Namibia. In a message of condolences delivered Friday on behalf of the president, Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare stated that Shiweda's death has shaken the nation and highlighted the dangers faced by those working in the justice system.
According to Namibia Press Agency, this moment also calls upon the nation to reaffirm its commitment to law and order. Prime Minister Ngurare emphasized that criminality, intimidation, or violence must not weaken the administration of justice. He affirmed that the institutions of justice must remain strong, independent, and protected, and those who serve within them must know that the nation stands firmly behind them.
Ngurare described Shiweda as a dedicated servant of the law who served with professionalism and integrity. He noted that she represented the ideals upon which the justice system is built, believing in the independence of the law and the principle that justice must not be for sale.
Ngurare stressed that Namibia remains governed by the rule of law and warned that violence against officers of the law will not be tolerated. He declared that any act directed against those who uphold the laws is an act against the republic itself and will be met with the full force of the law.
Oshana Governor Hofni Iipinge urged Namibians to reject violence and intimidation against those serving in the justice system. He remarked that targeting a prosecutor threatens the very foundation of justice, attempting to instill fear where there should be confidence and silence where there should be truth.
Governor Iipinge called for the rejection of threats, revenge, and lawlessness, stressing that disputes must be resolved through lawful means. Shiweda was shot and doused with a corrosive acidic substance on 17 October and succumbed to her injuries last Saturday. She is survived by her parents, two children, and seven siblings.
