Windhoek: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Thursday urged Namibians to embrace unity, compassion and responsibility during the Easter weekend, while calling for greater caution on the country's roads.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Nandi-Ndaitwah extended wishes for a blessed and peaceful period of reflection and renewal as Christians in Namibia join others around the world in commemorating Easter. "The Easter weekend holds deep spiritual significance. It reminds us of sacrifice, compassion, forgiveness, and the triumph of hope over despair," she said.

The President called on citizens to use the period to reflect on their shared responsibility in building a peaceful, inclusive and prosperous nation. "Let us use this time to renew our commitment to national unity, reconciliation, and service to our communities," she said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah also raised concern over the high number of road accidents often recorded during the holiday period and urged motorists to act responsibly. "I therefore urge all Namibians to exercise caution on our roads, to drive safely and responsibly, and to remain mindful of the lives of others," she said.

She added: "Let us all play our part in ensuring that every journey ends safely and that families remain safe and together during this important time."

The Head of State also expressed appreciation to members of the security services, healthcare workers and other essential personnel who continue to serve during the holiday period. "May this Easter weekend bring renewed hope, faith, and blessings to you and your families," Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
