Nandi Ndaitwah to Officially Open Parliament Next Week

Windhoek: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will officially open the Third Session of the Eighth Parliament next Tuesday, following a year-end recess. According to Namibia Press Agency, the Senior Public Relations Officer in the National Assembly, Sakeus Kadhikua, confirmed the event, emphasizing its importance in Namibia's national calendar. The session will take place under the theme 'Enhancing the role of Parliament for inclusive development and participatory democracy.' The parliament is currently in a year-end recess, having concluded the previous session around November 13, 2025. It will reconvene on February 3, 2026, marking the beginning of the Third Session of the Eighth Parliament. Kadhikua stated that the opening of parliament will feature a Guard of Honour, including a military parade and a 21-gun salute. Several key bills are expected to be presented during the 2026 parliamentary session, including the Public Enterprises and Governance Amendment Bill, 2025, and the Petroleum Amendment Bill fo r Exploration and Production. Additionally, the Land Bill, Mental Health Bill, and Regional Council Amendment Bill are slated for introduction. Two other bills, the Public Accounts and Auditors (2024) Bill and the Income Tax Amendment Bill, are also anticipated to be finalized next month. These bills are expected to be introduced in the National Assembly during the 2026 legislative year, though this will depend on their finalization by the Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations.
