Windhoek: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has conveyed a message of condolences to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune following the death of former Algerian President Liamine Zeroual. He was 84. Nandi-Ndaitwah, in a statement issued by the Presidency, expressed sorrow over Zeroual's passing on Saturday. According to Namibia Press Agency, the president noted that Zeroual's death represents a loss not only to Algeria but to the entire African continent, particularly in light of the historical solidarity between Algeria and Namibia during the liberation struggle. 'The passing of President Zeroual is not only a loss to Algeria, but also to all who cherish the enduring bonds of solidarity forged during the struggles for liberation across our continent,' she said. She highlighted Algeria's support to Namibia during its fight for independence, describing it as unwavering and significant in shaping relations between the two countries. The president further paid tribute to Zeroual's leadership, saying he would be remembered for his contribution to peace, stability, and nation-building in Algeria. 'His leadership reflected a deep sense of duty to his people and to the ideals of unity and nation-building,' she said. Nandi-Ndaitwah also recalled Zeroual's historic State visit to Namibia in September 1998, noting that it remains the only visit by an Algerian Head of State to Namibia to date. She reaffirmed Namibia's solidarity with Algeria during the mourning period. 'Namibia stands in solidarity with the government and the people of Algeria as you mourn this great loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family, and with all those whose lives were touched by his leadership and service,' she said.
