Windhoek: President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Sunday extended condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the people of Nigeria over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Nandi-Ndaitwah, in her message of condolences, described Buhari as a catalyst for development in Africa. 'I have learned with sadness about the passing away of the former president of Nigeria, H.E. Muhammadu Buhari. President Buhari contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria and the African continent.'
Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that Nigeria has always been a steadfast friend of the Namibian people during the difficult days of the liberation struggle, adding that since 1990, bilateral relations between the two nations have grown from strength to strength.
The President said she particularly recalled the important role the late President Buhari played in strengthening friendship and commercial ties between Nigeria and Namibia during his tenure as President.
'During this hour of grief, I extend, on behalf of the people and the government of the Republic of Namibia, sincere condolences to President Bola Tinubu, the Buhari family and the fraternal people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May the soul of former President Muhammadu Buhari find eternal rest,' she said.
The former Nigerian president died on Sunday at the age of 82. He served as president from 2015 to 2023.
