NANDI HILLS — Felix Koskei, the Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff, has urged parents in Nandi County to prioritize the education of their children, describing it as the greatest investment they can make. Speaking at Lel Wak High School in Nandi Hills sub-County during a thanksgiving ceremony for the school’s impressive performance in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, Koskei highlighted education as a pivotal equalizer in society.
According to Kenya News Agency, education bridges the gap between the wealthy and the less fortunate, enabling individuals from all backgrounds to transform their lives and contribute meaningfully to society. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between parents and educators to ensure students’ academic success and called on parents to join efforts in eradicating illegal drugs, appealing to them to report any suspicious activities to authorities.
The ceremony also recognized the efforts of the local security team in combating illicit substances and encouraged community cooperation in these initiatives. “I want to applaud the security team for their efforts to avert illicit brew and drug abuse. Let’s ensure our county is free from substances like cocaine and Bhang,” Koskei stated.
Benard Kitur, the Member of Parliament for Nandi Hills, announced plans funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to sponsor 1,000 form four leavers for technical training and 500 youths for driving school, aiming to provide alternative education paths and skills development for those not proceeding to university.
The event was also graced by Maurice Anthony Crowley, the retired Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitale, who called on the financially stable members of the community to support underprivileged students’ educational endeavors without discrimination.
Gabriel Kieny, the Principal of Lel Wak Boys High School, attributed the school’s success to the collective effort of parents, teachers, and the community. He celebrated the school’s 100 percent transition rate to university but highlighted the need for additional classrooms and equipment to further enhance the educational experience.
The calls for increased educational support, community involvement in safeguarding youth against drugs, and the initiative to provide vocational training and driving lessons reflect a comprehensive approach to fostering a conducive environment for learning and development in Nandi Hills.
