Nandi East Official Urges Community Support for Students During Exam Period

Nandi hills: Nandi East Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Ngalia Ndaya has called on area residents to provide a conducive environment for students during the upcoming examination period to boost their performance.

According to Kenya News Agency, Ndaya emphasized the community’s role in ensuring a quiet and supportive atmosphere for students as national exams approach. Speaking at the Mashujaa celebrations at Nandi Hills stadium, he highlighted the detrimental effects of noise and disruptions near examination centers. Ndaya issued a stern warning against those engaging in or facilitating distractions, stating that security agents would deal strictly with such offenses.

Ndaya also addressed the issue of illegal brews in the community, urging residents to refrain from selling these to students and to report any such activities to authorities for appropriate action. He stressed the importance of parental guidance and vigilance during this critical period, noting that involvement in illicit activities could seve
rely impact students’ academic outcomes.

The DCC further discussed the broader implications of education in the region, particularly concerning technological advancements and job opportunities. He pointed out the challenges faced by families due to the mechanization of tea plucking, a primary local industry, which has led to job losses. Ndaya encouraged parents to foster educational advancement in their children to better equip them for the evolving job market, urging them to utilize government credits and form groups to start businesses that could support their children’s education.

Additionally, Ndaya touched on cultural practices such as circumcision during the holiday season, advising parents to ensure that their boys are under responsible care and to avoid exposing them to traditional brews, which could adversely affect their future, including their educational paths. He emphasized the legal age for alcohol consumption and the need for community members to uphold these standards to safeguard the youth’
