WINDHOEK – In an unprecedented crackdown, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) reported the confiscation of nearly 745,000 kilograms of cannabis throughout a series of national operations conducted in July.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the operations not only targeted cannabis but also led to the seizure of 850 Mandrax tablets, 123.5 grams of cocaine powder, and 97 units of crack cocaine. Over the course of the month, 130 individuals were arrested, including 120 Namibian nationals and 10 foreigners, with the latter group comprising nationals from Burundi, Congo, Botswana, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, head of NamPol’s public relations division, emphasized the crucial role of regional and international cooperation in curbing drug trafficking, particularly in light of the involvement of foreign nationals.
NamPol’s statement further outlined that these efforts are part of a broader strategy aimed at intensifying the fight against drug-related activities across Namibia.
