Omusati: The Namibian Police Force in the Omusati Region has confirmed that 14 inmates awaiting trial have allegedly escaped from a police holding cell in Ruacana. The incident, which has raised significant concerns about security and prisoner management, reportedly took place on Monday between 15h00 and 20h00.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Omusati Regional Commander, Commissioner Ismael Basson, detailed the escape, explaining how the inmates managed to break free. The suspects reportedly opened an unsecured burglar door that provided access to the courtroom. Once inside, they proceeded to break the court door, allowing them to enter the courtroom, where they opened windows to facilitate their escape.
Commissioner Basson emphasized that all the escapees are known suspects, although none have been re-arrested so far. The Namibian Police Force has launched an investigation to understand the circumstances that allowed the incident to occur and to ensure that the suspects are apprehended swiftly.
