Namibia’s President Mbumba Urges Inclusion in Economic Development on Constitution Day

WINDHOEK — In a statement marking Namibia’s 34th Constitution Day, President Nangolo Mbumba called on Namibians to commit to inclusive economic development, ensuring no one is left behind. The national observance comes in the shadow of the recent passing of former President Hage Geingob, who played a pivotal role as the Chairperson of the Constituent Assembly and was instrumental in crafting Namibia’s constitution.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the constitution has served as a cornerstone for the country, guiding Namibia through a seamless transition following Geingob’s death on February 4, 2024.

Mbumba highlighted the country’s journey under Geingob’s leadership, recognizing him as a visionary leader who tirelessly advocated for the fundamental rights and freedoms enshrined in the Namibian Constitution. The president underscored the significance of Constitution Day, emphasizing Namibia’s status as a peaceful, stable, and vibrant democracy admired by many nations worldwide. He commended the nation’s commitment to upholding the fundamental rights and freedoms that are vital for a peaceful, united, and prosperous Namibia.

In his message, President Mbumba reminded citizens of the ongoing work towards development and prosperity, urging them to recommit to the ideals of unity, peace, and justice for all as they commemorate Constitution Day.
