Namibian Minister of Mines Calls for Global Collaboration in Mining Sector at Windhoek Expo


WINDHOEK — At the 11th Mining Expo and Conference held in Windhoek, Tom Alweendo, Namibia’s Minister of Mines and Energy, advocated for increased global cooperation to leverage the opportunities and address challenges in the mining sector.



According to Namibia Press Agency, the conference, themed ‘Green Shoots for Namibia’s Mining Industry: A Season of Opportunity and Growth to Drive Economic Expansion,’ aims to highlight the potential of Namibia’s mining industry, attract business investments, and promote mining-related careers. He emphasized the government’s dedication to creating a sustainable and profitable sector, noting the current status of mining licenses and operations within the country.



Minister Alweendo pointed out the growing global interest in critical minerals necessary for the energy transition, underscoring the need for a coordinated international effort to sustain these mineral supply chains. He expressed Namibia’s readiness to become a significant contributor in this arena, seeking partnerships to develop a competitive and beneficial critical minerals industry.



“Our vision is to be a significant player in the supply chain of critical minerals in support of the global energy transition,” Alweendo stated, stressing the importance of collaboration with international partners to achieve economic benefits and enhance the socio-economic impact on Namibian citizens.
