PRETORIA — The Namibian Police Force’s attaché in Pretoria, Commissioner Reinhardt ! Goaseb, announced that the nationality of a woman detained at OR Tambo International Airport on suspected drug-related charges has not yet been confirmed. The 30-year-old woman, believed to be a Namibian national, was apprehended by the South African Police Service (SAPS) after arriving from São Paulo, Brazil, en route to Namibia.
According to the Namibia Press Agency, Commissioner ! Goaseb, in a recent interview, stated that he is awaiting permission from South African authorities to interrogate the suspect to verify her nationality. “At this stage, we are not sure about her nationality. Anyone can carry a passport which may even be forged, and pretend to be a Namibian national. The interrogation we are to conduct will give clarity on this issue,” ! Goaseb explained.
South African law enforcement was tipped off about the arrival of a suspected drug mule, leading to her immediate interception as she passed through immigration. She was arrested and subsequently taken to a local hospital where a medical X-ray revealed foreign objects in her stomach, confirming suspicions of drug smuggling, as reported by South African media.
The case continues to develop as investigations are underway to ascertain more details about the suspect’s background and the extent of her involvement in drug trafficking.
