WINDHOEK—Namibian ambassadors are congregating in Windhoek for the 9th Session of the Heads of Mission Conference to explore strategies for repositioning Namibia in a volatile and competitive global landscape.

According to NAMPA, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who opened the five-day event on Monday, the conference is centered on the theme ‘Pursuing Namibia’s economic diplomacy for development and prosperity.’

Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized the ambassadors’ critical role as the nation’s representatives abroad. “You are our eyes and ears abroad, and we need you to keep us informed about what you observe and hear in your countries of accreditation,” she stated. She further stressed the importance of ambassadors leveraging technological advancements to report details rather than relying on TV and social media.

The conference agenda includes identifying and discussing challenges Namibia faces, proposing solutions, and hosting presentations from several ministries and government agencies. These will cover diverse sectors including mines and energy, as well as trade and industrialisation.

In addition, the gathering will dedicate significant time to discussions on global geopolitical trends and their potential impact on Namibia’s policies on international relations and cooperation. Nandi-Ndaitwah noted that Africa is becoming increasingly entangled in geopolitical competitions among major powers due to the continent’s wealth in critical raw materials. “We must safeguard these for the benefit of our people,” she concluded.
