WINDHOEK — The Namibian para-sports community is in mourning following the announcement of the death of Katelyn Venter, an 18-year-old para-archery athlete. Disability Sports Namibia and the Namibia National Paralympic Committee confirmed her passing on Tuesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Venter was a pioneering figure in para-archery and was on the cusp of a major breakthrough, as she awaited a slot allocation for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, scheduled from August 28 to September 8, 2024. The NPC expressed profound sadness over her untimely death through a social media post, praising her dedication and vibrant spirit that significantly impacted the para-sports community.
NPC Secretary General, Michael Hamukwaya, in an interview with Nampa, reflected on Venter’s commitment and passion for para-archery. He conveyed condolences to her family, teammates, and friends, noting her potential and enthusiasm for her sport. Hamukwaya emphasized the need to honor Venter’s legacy by continuing to promote and develop para-archery in Namibia, celebrating her life and the impact she had on her sport and community.
