Namibia Maritime Museum Inaugurated by President Mbumba in Lüderitz


LÜDERITZ — President Nangolo Mbumba inaugurated the Namibia Maritime Museum on Wednesday, marking a significant addition to the historical and cultural landscape of Lüderitz. The new museum, situated at the renovated Old Power Station, aims to become a central resource for exploring Namibia’s maritime history and its impact on the nation.



According to Namibia Press Agency, President Mbumba highlighted the museum’s role in celebrating the ocean’s contribution to the country’s history. He stated that the facility would document and preserve maritime heritage and public education. The museum’s establishment transforms the once dilapidated Old Power Station into a significant landmark, preserving historical artifacts and vessels for public and academic engagement.



The president detailed the museum’s features, including year-round cultural programs and art events aimed at promoting environmental conservation and sustainable ocean practices. These initiatives underscore the ocean’s economic importance to Namibia, providing resources, transportation, and tourism opportunities.
