WINDHOEK – Namibia’s capital is currently hosting the fourth Annual International High-Level Cybersecurity Conference, focusing on emerging threats in cybersecurity and the nation’s readiness to enhance digital safety.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Communication and Technology, Modestus Amutse, who delivered the keynote address, the conference, running from Wednesday to Friday, serves as a critical platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing among experts in the cybersecurity field. The event attracts stakeholders from various economic sectors and emphasizes the need for rigorous cybersecurity measures amidst the rapid technological changes and global interconnectedness.
Amutse highlighted the pervasive risk of cybercrimes which now threaten diverse sectors including oil and gas, mining, energy, aviation, and telecommunications. He noted that these crimes can lead to substantial financial and reputational damages. The conference aims to address these challenges by fostering dialogue on the latest trends and threats that shape the cybersecurity landscape.
The Deputy Minister also stressed the importance of a unified approach involving government, industry leaders, academia, and civil society to secure digital infrastructure and capitalize on digital economic opportunities. Through such collective efforts, Amutse expressed confidence in developing robust strategies and solutions to protect against cyber threats and ensure the safety of the digital space in Namibia and beyond.
