Swakopmund: The head coach of Libya's men's senior national futsal team, Abdulbasit Alnaas, has praised Namibia's Brave Fives for their steady progress and growth in the game, highlighting its positive impact on continental football. Alnaas shared his thoughts following Libya's commanding 3-11 victory over Namibia's Brave Fives on Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Alnaas expressed his gratitude toward both Libyan and Namibian people and the tournament organizers for creating a welcoming and professionally managed event. He noted that the atmosphere at the game was a testament to the spirit of African football and futsal. Reflecting on Namibia's previous Afcon appearance in 2024 in Morocco, Alnaas remarked on the noticeable improvements in Namibia's organization, discipline, and overall quality of play.
Alnaas further emphasized that the Namibian team demonstrated increased structure on the court and showcased a growing pool of talented players capable of competing at higher levels. Despite the unfavorable result, he acknowledged the progress of Namibian futsal and expressed his satisfaction with their development.
The coach believes that if this upward trend continues, African futsal will grow and meet international standards through competitions like Afcon. He underscored the importance of sustained development, exposure, and cooperation across the continent to elevate the game further. He concluded by expressing his confidence that future encounters would be even more competitive as African futsal continues to rise.
The Brave Fives' aspirations to qualify for another African Cup of Nations (Afcon) were severely impacted by their 3-11 defeat to Libya at The Dome in Swakopmund on Wednesday. The second leg of their second-round qualifier is set to take place on Sunday, 08 February 2026, in Libya, with the winner advancing to join seven other qualified teams, including hosts Morocco, at the Afcon finals in April 2026.
