Namibia Celebrates World Teachers’ Day, President Mbumba Highlights Commitment to Education

Windhoek — In a significant nod to educators, President Nangolo Mbumba emphasized the crucial role of teachers in national development during the World Teachers’ Day celebrations.



According to Namibia Press Agency, President Mbumba, a former teacher himself, delivered a heartfelt statement recognizing the pivotal contributions of educators in shaping the country’s future. He marked the occasion under the global theme “Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,” underscoring a deep-seated commitment to enhancing teacher involvement in educational policy and development.



The President detailed several initiatives aimed at empowering teachers, including ongoing dialogues, increased resources, and improved conditions to foster an environment conducive to educational innovation and inclusivity. He revealed plans for the Namibia Teaching Profession (NTP) Bill, intended to align with Sustainable Development Goal 4, the United Nations Transforming Education Summit agenda, and the local Harambee Prosperity Plan II. This legislation is poised to elevate the teaching profession by setting standards for professional excellence and ethics while promoting continuous professional development.



Mbumba’s speech also focused on the importance of creating responsive learning environments that cater to all students, especially the most vulnerable. He called for renewed commitment to valuing and respecting teachers as they play an indispensable role in the development of the nation.
