Namentenga: The men of the Guépard military unit, in collaboration with the population of the commune of Boala, organized socio-cultural and sports activities on November 29 and 30, 2024, to fortify resilience and social cohesion. The events were presided over by the high commissioner of the province, Adama Conseiga, with co-sponsorship from adjutant Moussa Koma and the vice-president of the special delegation of the commune, Koudougou Marcel.
According to Burkina Information Agency, these initiatives aimed to bolster the resilience of the communities following terrorist attacks they had endured. The activities included a popular cross-country race, a dance evening, and awareness sessions for young people on sexual and reproductive health as well as early marriage.
The events facilitated an interaction between civilians and the military through sports competitions and cultural performances. On Saturday, November 30, 2024, competitions in scrabble, pétanque, checkers, and football took place. The military A
team emerged victorious in football, defeating the civilian B team after a penalty shootout, with a score of one goal to zero.
The festive atmosphere was palpable on the football field, with women engaging in ball games and performing the “Kiagba” dance, while men danced the warba, and children enjoyed the music of “d Ka na loog” by Osman. The representative of the Koingmesin customary chief expressed his gratitude for the event and commended all participants for their commitment to resilience and harmonious coexistence.
High Commissioner Adama Conseiga lauded the population’s resilience amid security challenges and urged their continued cooperation in combating terrorism. He also expressed appreciation to the provincial director of sports and recreation for his support and encouraged those who had left to return to the village.
To recall, the village of Boala, under terrorist pressure in 2023, was relocated and resettled in February 2024.
