NamBTS Urges Blood Donations Ahead of Easter Weekend

Okahandja: The Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia (NamBTS) announced on Monday that it will host a blood donation clinic in Okahandja on Wednesday. The clinic will take place at the Okahandja Town Hall and forms part of efforts to encourage voluntary blood donations during the Easter period.

According to Namibia Press Agency, NamBTS urged members of the public to donate blood, emphasizing that a single donation can save up to three lives. The organization highlighted the importance of donations, especially from individuals with O type blood, to assist patients such as mothers experiencing excessive bleeding during childbirth, cancer patients, trauma victims, and those in need of surgeries.

The statement from NamBTS noted that despite advances in medicine, there is no substitute for human blood, making donations critical to saving lives. It assured the public that donating blood does not weaken the immune system, as the body quickly replenishes the donated blood while maintaining immune function.

The organization continues to promote a culture of voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation and encouraged eligible individuals aged between 16 and 70, weighing at least 50 kilograms, and in good health, to participate. NamBTS concluded the statement by inviting the community to join the effort during the month of Easter by donating blood and becoming heroes in their communities.
