Oshikoto: In a boost to digital education in rural Namibia, Joseph Simaneka Asino Senior Secondary School officially received 10 computers donated by the Namibia Mineworkers Investment Company (Nam-Mic Holdings). The school, situated in the Onayena Constituency in the Oshikoto Region, received the computers valued at over N.dollars 80,000 recently.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Nam-Mic CEO Joshua Kaitungwa emphasized the company's commitment to ensuring no Namibian child is left behind in the digital age. He stated that the donation highlights the growing partnership between the private sector and educational institutions to bridge the digital divide. "Digital tools are essential for enhancing educational opportunities and preparing our learners for the future," said Kaitungwa. He noted that the donation is part of Nam-Mic's broader vision to empower communities through meaningful partnerships between corporate institutions and schools.
Deputy Director of the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture in the Oshikoto Directorate, Tomas Kalimbo, challenged the school to develop clear strategies for integrating the new computers into teaching and learning. He urged teachers and learners to use the technology purposefully, aiming to improve academic performance this year following disappointing results in 2025. "Technology must not be seen as mere hardware, but as a tool that delivers better outcomes," Kalimbo remarked.
School board chairperson Abed Indongo expressed gratitude, describing the donation as timely. "This contribution will strengthen teaching and learning while motivating parents to continue supporting the school," he said. Indongo encouraged teachers and learners to embrace digital tools as a catalyst for innovation and improved academic results.
On behalf of the learners, Grade 11 student Christine Uusiku thanked Nam-Mic for opening new doors to learning opportunities and pledged that students would make full use of the computers to boost their studies and digital literacy skills.
