NAM CSIRT Issues Update on NAC Cybersecurity Incident

Okahandja: The Namibia Cyber Security Incident Response Team (NAM-CSIRT) has issued an update on the cybersecurity incident involving the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) reported on Saturday, confirming that a portion of the unlawfully obtained data has been published online.

According to Namibia Press Agency, NAM-CSIRT, which operates under the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), stated in a media release that current assessments suggest the data may include airport permit system records, parking management information, engineering and project documentation, financial records, and certain internal reports.

The statement highlighted ongoing response and containment efforts being conducted in collaboration with NAM-CSIRT, external cybersecurity specialists, and relevant stakeholders. This includes continued forensic analysis and reinforcement of security measures.

CRAN Executive for Communication and Consumer Relations, Mufaro Nesongano, advised against the distribution of unverified or compromised data, warning that it may expose individuals and organizations to further risk. Nesongano emphasized the importance of handling information related to the incident responsibly and urged a cautious approach as investigations continue and verified updates are shared.

NAM-CSIRT also recommended that organizations prioritize key cybersecurity practices such as regular system updates, the use of multi-factor authentication, and improved user awareness to bolster their security posture.
