Nairobi: Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited (NCWSC) has announced that there will be a water supply interruption in various city estates due to ongoing repair works at the Kabete pumping station. The repair works involve six pump motors and their electrical control panels at Kabete station, which assist in increasing water pressure and directing flow towards the Dagoretti and Uthiru reservoirs.
According to Kenya News Agency, the estates that will be affected by the 24-hour water supply interruption include those along Naivasha Road, Kawangware, Gatina, Kabiro, Riruta Satellite, Dagoretti Corner, the whole of Ngando, Kangemi, Mountain View, Karen, and Ongata Rongai.
In a press statement sent to newsrooms, NCWSC Managing Director Nahason Muguna said the damage to the pumps was caused by the failure of a butterfly pump at the Kabete Water Treatment Works on May 4, 2025. ‘The damage was caused when the butterfly pump splashed water onto the pump motors and control panels, resulting in the damage,’ said Eng. Muguna, noting that the technical team spent the better part of Tuesday repairing the pipeline, which is currently ongoing.
Muguna, who regretted the inconvenience caused to customers, assured that the repair works on the motors will be completed later today, Wednesday 7th, at 9:00 p.m., after which supply will resume tonight.
