The High Commissioner of the province of Nahouri, Auguste Kinda proceeded on April 20, 2023, to the laying of the first stone of the cassava processing unit into derived products, in the village of Tiakané, in the municipality of Pô, Center-South region.
The village of Tiakané, in the commune of Pô (Centre-Sud region) will benefit from an infrastructure for processing cassava into by-products (attiéké, tapioca, gari).
The laying of the first stone of the infrastructure took place this Thursday, April 20, 2023 by Nahouri High Commissioner, Auguste Kinda, in the presence of several guests including the beneficiaries and representatives of the NGO “Les anges guardians de la nature ( AGN)”, initiator of the project.
According to the executive director of the AGN, Benjamin Bassono, the infrastructure which will come out of the ground in three months, will have a production capacity of 3000 tons/year and will be beaten on an area of 4850 m2 offered free of charge by the customary authorities of Tiakané. .
Mr. Bassono stressed that this initiative falls within the framework of the project “Strengthening the bases of security, sustainable and concerted management of the Pô-Nainga Sissili complex (PONASI 2).
According to him, the factory will employ local labor, 60% of whom will be women in the village of Tiakané and surrounding areas.
He specified that in addition to the cassava processing unit, actions will be carried out to enable the women and young people of the PONASI 2 complex to have benefits and resources to meet their daily needs.
According to Benjamin Bassono, it is, among other things, capacity building for young people and women and the construction of 04 semi-artisanal units.
The chief of the village of Tiakané expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the NGO for this great initiative for the benefit of the populations and undertook to support the NGO throughout the process.
The High Commissioner of the province of Nahouri, Auguste Kinda praised the leaders of the NGO for choosing his province to host the project.
He invited all the actors involved in the construction of the infrastructure to a synergy of action in its implementation. The PONASI2 project, in which the construction of the infrastructure is part, is carried out in partnership with the European Union.
The project aims to provide a sustainable response to the problems of financing the fight against poaching and the development of income-generating activities for the benefit of the populations living near the protected areas of PONASI.
It brings together the villages bordering the Kaboré Tambi National Park (PNKT), the Nazinga game ranch and the Sissili classified forest.
