Nahouri Province Sensitizes Actors on Torture Prevention

Nahouri: The High Commissioner of the province of Nahouri, Sie Aristide Mohamed Kam, presided over an awareness-raising meeting in Po, targeting state and non-state actors on the National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture (NMP), organized by the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH).

According to Burkina Information Agency, this awareness-raising activity is part of regional tours designed to present the mandate of the national prevention mechanism. It aims to educate various state and non-state actors about the National Prevention Mechanism against Torture (NPM). Dr. Richard Sawadogo, vice-president of the CNDH, emphasized that torture, whether physical or psychological, remains one of the most serious violations of human rights, attacking the dignity and integrity of human beings.

Dr. Sawadogo noted that preventing torture is not a responsibility borne by a single entity. Instead, it is a shared responsibility requiring cooperation and vigilance from all actors involved. He urged stakeholders to collaborate, share experiences, and work together to transform challenges into opportunities.

The meeting included presentations on the national, regional, and international legal framework for protecting against torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment. Discussions focused on the National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture and the role of law enforcement and health workers in combating torture. The exchanges were considered productive by Dr. Sawadogo, reflecting the participants' commitment to addressing these challenges.

The High Commissioner of the Nahouri province expressed appreciation for the CNDH initiative and reaffirmed the commitment of the province's administrative authorities and stakeholders to advancing human rights protection.
