According to burkina information agency:ccording to Burkina Information Agency, a total of 7,717 middle school students are involved in the civic and patriotic education activities. These include 3,297 students from the Po Commune, 774 from Guiaro, 1,994 from T®ebele, 867 from Ziou, and 785 from Zecco. The Civic Education Program (ECP) will run from January 10 to February 14, 2026, specifically targeting middle and high school students. It aims to instill civic responsibility, discipline, and republican values through theoretical and practical sessions led by the province's defense and security forces.
The program will address themes such as drug prevention, violence and insecurity in schools, protection of educational infrastructure, and the promotion of solidarity, social cohesion, and civic and patriotic values. Emile Hien praised the Defense and Security Forces, Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, and all services involved in implementing the program, emphasizing the importance of responsible behaviors and civic engagement in schools.
Hien highlighted that civic and patriotic education is crucial for fostering social cohesion and preparing youth to be conscious and responsible citizens. Students Darius Averibou and Alexia Sawadogo from Po Provincial High School expressed their support for the government's initiative, seeing it as an opportunity to embrace the fundamentals necessary to develop into new Burkinabe citizens and contribute to nation-building.
The principal of Po Provincial High School, Romeo Ouedraogo, expressed satisfaction with the selection of his school for the program's official launch. This initiative is part of a broader national effort to promote civic values and resilience amid the country's security challenges.
