Nahouri Peak Excursion Draws Thousands Amid Cultural Celebrations

Nahouri – Thousands of excursionists converged on Nahouri peak on July 27 for the 13th annual Nahouri 2024 excursion, an event that not only promotes physical activity and cultural exchange but also aims to strengthen community bonds amidst the ongoing security and humanitarian issues in Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the organizing committee, the event began in Place Némaro de Pô with an official start given by Auguste Kinda, the high commissioner of Nahouri province. Participants hiked 21 kilometers south from the city of Po to the peak. The day was marked by performances from local and national artists, traditional djongo dance, and demonstrations by bikers from Ouagadougou. The event also featured shopping streets and food tastings, which were integral in giving the excursion a special character.

The organizing committee emphasized the importance of sports and cultural activities in enhancing social cohesion, especially during challenging times for the country. This year’s edition saw significant participation from the Ghanaian community, indicating the cross-border appeal of the event. The traditional chief of Navrongo, representing the Ghanaian contingent, highlighted the transcendent nature of sports and culture, which he believes play crucial roles in fostering brotherhood.

The event concluded with a strong sense of achievement among organizers and participants alike, and calls from sponsors Rémi Tenkodogo and Rodrigue K. Sia to continue these types of activities to further promote social cohesion and integration between Burkina and Ghana.

The Nahouri excursion is organized by the Nahouri Excursion Association in partnership with the Dakola Freight Forwarders Association. This partnership reflects a broader effort to enhance national internal tourism as advocated by Didier O. Yaméogo, the regional director in charge of Culture for the Center-South, who praised the excursion for aligning with national tourism goals.
