Nahouri Livestock Markets Struggle Ahead of Eid al-Adha 2025

Nahouri: Muslims in Nahouri are preparing to celebrate Eid al-Adha on June 6, 2025, along with the rest of Burkina Faso. On the eve of this significant Muslim holiday, animal prices have surged, making them unaffordable for many buyers. Dealers have been reporting a gloomy market atmosphere, as observed by AIB in several livestock markets in Nahouri.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the market day on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Guelwongo in the commune of Ziou, the largest market in the region bordering Ghana, showcased a bustling atmosphere despite the intense heat. Muslims were actively seeking sheep for the upcoming sacrifice. However, traders like Luc Sia noted the challenges, stating, “The market is very gloomy this year because for the local breed, you have to pay between 75,000 and 100,000 CFA francs and for the Sahelian breed, prices are around 150,000 to 300,000 CFA francs, to buy a sheep.”

Similar sentiments were echoed in the town of P´, particularly at the livestock market in sector 6, which is typically bustling with activity. This Thursday morning, traders found themselves idle due to the sluggish market. Ali Zoulabou and Abdoul Kader Adouabou highlighted the lack of urgency among buyers, mentioning, “The market is timid, people are not rushing this year, we have sheep from 60,000 to 100,000 CFA francs for the local breed and 200,000 to 400,000 CFA francs for the Sahelian breed.”

Despite the challenges, the measure banning the sale of animals in the streets is being well respected in Nahouri, with livestock traders operating from clearly designated sites.
