OMUTHIYA: In a proactive effort to enhance road safety, the Namibia Bus and Taxi Association (NABTA) has called upon bus and taxi drivers across the country to participate in First Aid Training (FAT) and Defensive Driving courses. Pendapala Nakathingo, NABTA secretary, emphasized the significance of this training in reducing road accidents and equipping drivers with essential lifesaving skills.

According to The Namibia Press Agency, stated that the First Aid Training, initiated in September 2022, aims to transform drivers into effective first responders at accident scenes. Additionally, the Defensive Driving course is designed to instill in drivers the ability to maintain safety under various road conditions, thereby minimizing the risk of accidents. The training covers a broad spectrum of skills, including dealing with hazardous situations and promoting visibility and alertness on the road.

Nakathingo highlighted that over 700 bus and taxi drivers have already benefited from this program, conducted in partnership with Drivewell Training Academy and OSHMED first aid training. The training encompasses emergency care, safety management, and practical skills such as managing airway obstructions and treating wounds. Upon completion, drivers receive emergency first aid kits for their vehicles, underscoring NABTA’s commitment to road safety and the crucial role of driver education in preventing road accidents.
