Bougouriba, Burkina Faso – In a notable gesture of support for peace efforts, the village of Nabéré in the Bougouriba province, South-West region of Burkina Faso, donated 350,000 CFA francs to local authorities. This contribution was presented to the prefect and president of the special municipal delegation (PDS) of Bondjigui, Patrick Bassière, on December 29, 2023.

According to Burkina Information Agency, The donation was led by the land chief of Nabéré, Wayo Traoré, who headed the village delegation. The total sum of 350,000 CFA francs was split into two parts: 200,000 francs for the patriotic support fund and 150,000 francs to assist the communal coordination of volunteers for the defense of the homeland (VDP) in Bondjigui. Traoré explained that this initiative was spurred by the Burkina authorities’ efforts in restoring peace in their village, which included the reopening of schools and the return of normalcy in daily activities, thanks to the presence of the VDPs.

“Our VDPs are armed through the contributions of fellow citizens. We mobilized our village to contribute, hoping that other areas will also experience liberation,” Traoré stated.

Patrick Bassière, the PDS of Bondjigui, expressed his gratitude for Nabéré’s act of patriotism, recognizing it as a significant contribution to addressing the insecurity issue in the municipality and the country at large. He encouraged other villages to emulate Nabéré’s example.

The municipal coordinator of the VDP in Bondjigui, Sié Dominique Kam, emphasized that the value of the contribution is secondary to the willingness to respond to the call of the head of state. Kam commended the villagers for their spirit of resilience and their supportive gesture.

The VDPs in Bondjigui, who rely on personal means of transport for securing the municipality, will benefit from this contribution. The funds will assist in the maintenance of their equipment, thereby supporting their ongoing peacekeeping efforts.
