Myanmar Sees Surge in Rice Exports in First Five Months of Fiscal Year

YANGON — Myanmar has exported a significant 718,281 tons of rice and broken rice in the first five months of the 2024-25 fiscal year, as reported by the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) on Saturday. This marks a substantial phase of trade activity for the Southeast Asian nation, generating $353 million in revenue from these exports.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the largest portion of these exports occurred in August, with 207,369 tons of rice and broken rice exported, contributing $97 million to the total earnings. Myanmar’s rice has reached over 30 countries during this period, including major markets like Indonesia, China, the Philippines, the Netherlands, and Belgium. This distribution was facilitated through both sea and land transportation routes, indicating a robust logistics network supporting the agricultural sector.

This export activity is a significant increase compared to the previous fiscal year of 2023-24, where Myanmar exported over 1.6 million tons of rice and broken rice, totaling more than $845 million in revenue. The ongoing fiscal year’s performance suggests a strong start and potential for surpassing last year’s totals, reflecting the growing global demand for Myanmar’s rice.
