Myanmar Hosts Poetry Event to Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival


YANGON — A cultural celebration featuring poetry, traditional performances, and culinary displays was held in Yangon on Saturday, marking the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, a key date in both Chinese and Myanmar calendars that symbolizes reunion and joy.



According to Namibia Press Agency, the event showcased Mid-Autumn themed poetry recitations, performances from Peking Opera, various songs and dances, and cultural activities including moon cake-making, tea culture, and calligraphy exhibitions. The festivities drew an audience of nearly 150 participants, comprising university students and local employees of Chinese enterprises operating in Myanmar.



Li Qianguo, counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, spoke at the event about the deep cultural and interpersonal connections between China and Myanmar, emphasizing the shared symbolism of the moon in traditional festivals across both nations. The event served as a platform for fostering friendships and cultural understanding through the medium of poetry.



Tin Maung Tun, rector of the University of Yangon, highlighted the cultural reverence for the full moon, seen as a representation of harmony and happiness in both Myanmar and Chinese traditions. He noted that such events not only enrich the students’ appreciation of traditional Chinese culture but also promote ongoing cultural exchanges and mutual learning between Myanmar and China.
