Myanmar Celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival with Poetry and Cultural Festivities

YANGON — A special poetry event was organized in Yangon on Saturday to mark the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, featuring a rich blend of cultural performances and activities.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the celebration included traditional Mid-Autumn poetry recitations, performances of Peking Opera, various songs and dances, and cultural displays like moon cake-making, tea culture, and calligraphy. The event attracted nearly 150 attendees, comprising university students and local employees from Chinese enterprises operating in Myanmar.

Li Qianguo, a counselor from the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, highlighted the deep cultural and personal connections between China and Myanmar. He emphasized the significance of the moon in both cultures’ traditional festivals and noted that the event served to strengthen friendships through shared poetic expressions.

Tin Maung Tun, Rector of the University of Yangon, also spoke at the event, reflecting on the shared cultural values of admiring the full moon, which symbolizes harmony, reunion, and happiness in both Myanmar and Chinese traditions. “The poetry recitation and the showcasing of delicacies provided Myanmar students studying the Chinese language with a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture, furthering cultural exchanges and mutual learning,” he stated.
