Kiambu: A land verification and validation exercise has begun in Mwihoko Estate, Ruiru Sub-County, to authenticate land ownership and facilitate the issuance of title deeds. The five-day exercise started on January 27, 2025, and will run until January 31.
According to Kenya News Agency, the initiative is spearheaded by the Kiambu County Government in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, the National Land Commission (NLC), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It aims to enhance land digitalization and streamline land registration processes. The verification process seeks to confirm the physical location and allotments of Mwihoko Phase 2 plots to ensure accuracy and legitimacy in title deed issuance, a move expected to advance settlement schemes across Kiambu County.
The exercise is being overseen by a team comprising officials from the Kiambu County Government’s Directorate of Land Survey and Geo-Informatics, the National Land Commission, the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, and the Mwihoko 2 Land Company Limited. Salome Muthoni Wainaina, the County Executive Committee Member for Land, Housing, Physical Planning, and Urban Development, underscored the importance of land ownership in securing property rights, enhancing value, and ensuring legal recognition. She reiterated the County Government’s commitment to issuing title deeds to all residents.
‘Under the leadership of Governor Kimani Wamatangi and in collaboration with other government agencies, the county administration is dedicated to facilitating title deed acquisition for squatters and settlers across Kiambu,’ Wainaina stated. She urged residents to take advantage of the exercise to verify their land records, noting that the initiative aims to address long-standing land ownership disputes in the county.
Meanwhile, 1,000 landowners in Nachu-Ndacha, Nachu-Mikuyu-ini, and Karai-Lussigatte in Nachu Ward, Kikuyu Sub-County, received their title deeds from the Lands Ministry last week after waiting for over 40 years.
