Mwea: Mwea Constituency is poised for a significant infrastructure boost with the construction of a Sh24 million Huduma Centre and Jitume Digital Hub. Scheduled for completion by February 2025, these facilities aim to enhance access to government services and digital resources for local residents, potentially transforming the community’s socioeconomic landscape.
According to Kenya News Agency, the official groundbreaking ceremony for the project took place today, marking the commencement of construction. The Member of Parliament for Mwea Constituency, Ms. Mary Maingi, highlighted the expected benefits of the new centre, noting that it would eliminate the need for residents to travel long distances for government services. The Huduma Centre will consolidate various government services under one roof, while the Jitume Digital Hub will offer digital training and resources to empower youth and entrepreneurs.
The project has garnered positive reactions from the community, with a large turnout at the ceremony. Re
sidents expressed optimism about the improvements the Huduma Centre will bring to their daily lives. Ms. Maingi also pledged support for the Jitume Hub through the purchase of computers, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fostering youth self-reliance in the digital arena.
In addition to infrastructure development, Ms. Maingi reiterated her commitment to supporting local education. She extended her best wishes to exam candidates and mentioned her office’s ongoing initiatives to provide nutritional support to students during exams.
Purity Mengich, the Assistant County Commissioner, supported the MP’s remarks, affirming the project’s alignment with government efforts to improve service accessibility in rural areas. Mengich encouraged local youth to take advantage of the digital hub upon its completion, highlighting its role in providing essential online skills.
Titus Karanja, a Mwea resident, voiced the community’s anticipation, citing the convenience and cost savings the Huduma Centre will bring. He
also emphasized the potential of the Jitume Hub to create employment opportunities for local youth, thereby positively impacting the community’s socioeconomic conditions.
