Mutula and Nzioka Urge Makueni Youth to Register as Voters

Nairobi: Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. and Mbooni MP Erastus Nzioka have called upon the local youth to register as voters during the ongoing national exercise. Speaking at Utangwa Catholic church in Mbooni sub-county, Mutula emphasized the importance of voter registration as a constitutional means for young people to exercise their democratic rights in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

According to Kenya News Agency, Mutula urged the youth to ensure their voices are heard at the ballot box, highlighting that registering as voters is the only way to hold leaders accountable and elect desired representatives. The governor made these remarks during a fundraiser aimed at enabling Utangwa Catholic Church to purchase a vehicle. He reassured those with doubts about the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission's (IEBC) strategy, stating that sufficient legal safeguards exist to ensure vote integrity.

Mutula further mentioned that if flaws are found in the current election laws, members of parliament have the ability to propose necessary amendments to improve the electoral process. He emphasized that the existing laws are robust enough to account for votes, yet acknowledged the potential for legislative improvements before the elections.

MP Nzioka echoed the governor's sentiments, reminding Kenyans that registering as voters is a democratic right that allows participation in electing leaders at various levels, from ward representatives to the president. He stressed the importance of registering now to safeguard votes in the future and expressed the need for new leadership to tackle the challenges facing the country.
