Ouagadougou: A musician known as 0.I was arrested after a video teaser for an upcoming music video sparked widespread outrage on social media platforms. The teaser, released on Friday, May 23, 2025, included scenes and comments that were considered indecent and contrary to societal morals, rapidly circulating among Burkinabe internet users.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the musician was apprehended and interrogated by relevant authorities. Subsequently, he was presented before the Public Prosecutor at the Ouaga I High Court to address these allegations. The acts in question are addressed under the Burkinabe penal code, specifically article 533-1, which outlines that public indecency can result in a prison sentence ranging from three months to two years and a fine between two hundred and fifty thousand (250,000) to two million (2,000,000) CFA francs.
Public outrage against decency is defined as any sexual exhibition or intentional act contrary to good morals, performed in public or in a private setting accessible to public view, which could offend the moral sensibilities of unwilling witnesses. The Central Cybercrime Brigade (BCLCC) has issued a reminder to artists, influencers, and content creators about the significance of producing works that honor the moral and cultural values of society. They emphasized that while freedom of creation and expression is important, it should never be used to justify actions that offend collective sensibilities.
