Uasin gishu: Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has urged Kenyans to back the formulation of the country's Vision 2060 development blueprint to establish a long-term roadmap for Kenya's transformation. Speaking during a Sunday service at St. Stephen Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), Chepkoilel, in Moiben Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County, Murkomen said the proposed Vision 2060 should not be viewed as a political project but as a national undertaking that will shape the country's future for generations.
According to Kenya News Agency, Murkomen emphasized that the vision for Kenya's future is a collective endeavor belonging to all Kenyans, including future generations. He stated that every citizen should have the opportunity to contribute to the country's long-term development agenda. Murkomen urged leaders and citizens, especially from marginalized regions, to engage in the national conversation, emphasizing the chance to chart an inclusive development path.
Murkomen cautioned politicians against politicizing national security, stressing that the safety and security of Kenyans should never be exploited for political gain. He urged leaders to act responsibly and avoid making statements undermining security institutions. The Cabinet Secretary highlighted the government's investment in security personnel, equipment, and infrastructure, which restored peace in Kerio Valley, allowing residents to resume normal economic and social activities.
On agriculture, Murkomen acknowledged the significant crop losses caused by prolonged drought in Uasin Gishu and the wider North Rift region. He assured farmers that the government had developed interventions to cushion those affected. He mentioned President William Ruto's directive for ministries to implement measures supporting farmers, including continued subsidies on farm inputs. The reduction in fertilizer prices from about Sh7,000 to Sh2,500 per bag has eased the burden on farmers, bolstering food production.
Murkomen also addressed preparations for this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations, to be jointly hosted by Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Nandi counties. He reported that key infrastructure projects, including upgrading Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret to international standards, would be completed ahead of the national celebrations. The Cabinet Secretary commended the government's economic reforms, noting their role in stabilizing the economy through lower inflation, a stronger shilling, and improved investor confidence. He emphasized that development programs were being implemented nationwide to promote equitable development.
