Murang’a: Members of the Murang’a University of Technology Engineering Students Association (MUTESA), in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) central branch, have emphasized the significance of engineering in shaping a sustainable future as they commemorated World Engineering Day. The students participated in a clean-up exercise around Murang’a town and the university to honor the contributions of engineers globally.
According to Kenya News Agency, Caroline Kwamboka, the MUTESA president, mentioned that the students celebrated Engineering Day by not only cleaning the environment but also hosting career talks and conducting industrial visits. She encouraged young women to pursue careers in engineering, noting that women are equally capable in the field.
Dr. David Kimemia, an electrical and electronics engineering lecturer, highlighted that World Engineering Day is an opportunity to remember Sir M. Visvesvaraya for his contributions to civil engineering. He acknowledged the role of engineers in supporting government policies on sustainable development and emphasized the importance of collaboration among different stakeholders.
Maureen Mwangi from the Institution of Engineers urged engineers to promote sustainable practices in their work to support national development and infrastructure projects. She highlighted the potential of engineering students to address modern challenges through innovation and called for the creation of employment opportunities for engineers to utilize their skills effectively.
World Engineering Day serves as an annual celebration of the achievements of engineers worldwide, recognizing their crucial role in infrastructure development and technological advancement.
