Murang'a: The county government of Murang'a has installed a new CT scan machine at the Murang'a Level 5 Hospital, aiming to enhance diagnostic services and reduce the need for patients to seek care outside the county. The new 128-slice GE CT Scan Machine replaces an older 64-slice model that frequently broke down, often forcing patients to travel to other regions for scans.
According to Kenya News Agency, the launch of the new machine was officiated by Deputy Governor Stephen Munania, who described the installation as a significant investment in the local health sector. The machine is expected to improve diagnostic services for residents, providing timely and accurate medical imaging within Murang'a. Munania emphasized the county administration's commitment to improving healthcare access by procuring modern diagnostic equipment.
Deputy Governor Munania also encouraged residents to utilize medical insurance schemes such as the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) to afford specialized services like CT scans. The installation aligns with Murang'a County's broader goal of achieving universal health coverage and ensuring residents receive quality healthcare without leaving the county.
Dr. Florence Kagwaini, the Medical Superintendent of Murang'a Level 5 Hospital, welcomed the new equipment, highlighting its role in detecting both cancerous and non-cancerous conditions. She noted that the new scanner offers faster and more detailed imaging, which is crucial for diagnosing conditions such as cancer, neurological disorders, cardiovascular issues, and traumatic injuries. Dr. Kagwaini mentioned that the advanced machine is expected to reduce waiting times and enhance treatment planning.
The installation of the 128-slice scanner is part of a larger initiative to modernize Murang'a Level 5 Hospital into a leading referral facility, ensuring residents have access to top-tier medical services within the county.
