Murang’a Catholic Bishop Advocates for Quality Leadership

Murang’a: The Murang’a Catholic Diocese Bishop James Maria Wainaina has called upon all leaders to exemplify quality leadership in the running of the country. Speaking during the launch of the 2025 Lenten campaign at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Murang’a, Bishop Wainaina emphasized the need for leaders to address issues affecting Kenyans to make Kenya a home for all its citizens.

According to Kenya News Agency, the bishop amplified the call of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops for Christians and people of goodwill to join the church in addressing the concerns of Kenyans and advocating for change during the Lenten period. He underscored the importance of a Kenya characterized by justice, peace, and unity, where all citizens, especially the marginalized, can thrive under leadership marked by integrity.

The cleric urged Christians to reflect deeply on their desires for their country and consider whether those desires align with the values of the Kingdom of God. Bishop Wainaina highlighted the necessity for transformation beginning in individuals’ hearts, extending into society.

In light of Kenya’s challenges, including political instability, economic hardship, and social injustices, the bishop called upon all Kenyans to desire what is beneficial for the country, pray for healing and unity, and commit themselves to actions reflecting these desires. He stressed the importance of actively seeking the nation’s welfare in every aspect of life.

Bishop Wainaina condemned the widespread cases of abductions, forced disappearances, and increased femicide, urging the government to uphold justice and prosecute the perpetrators. He also called upon leaders to ensure Kenyans have access to quality healthcare in public health facilities, emphasizing the necessity of timely government funding for healthcare providers.

The bishop also urged elected leaders to combat corruption and embrace accountability, expressing the aspiration for a corruption-free Kenya. He further called for the upholding of family values, recognizing the family as the first institution for instilling values, and for leaders to focus on the youth as untapped resources of the nation.

Bishop Wainaina also encouraged Christians to consider how their desire for environmental stewardship can restore and protect God’s creation for future generations. The Murang’a diocese marked the start of the 2025 Lenten campaign with a procession of the Christian faithful across Murang’a town, led by Bishop Maria Wainaina.
