Municipal Olympiads in Tcheriba: Aiming to Curb School Dropout and Promote Academic Excellence

Mouhoun: The second edition of the municipal school olympiads was held on April 18 and 19, 2026, at the Tcheriba Departmental High School. This initiative aims to promote excellence and stimulate healthy competition among students.

According to Burkina Information Agency, these olympiads, organized by the association "Le Cercle de l'Excellence," aim to contribute to improving the quality of education through intellectual competitions in various disciplines, both literary and scientific. The event was held under the patronage of the President of the Special Delegation of Tcheriba, Ouesseni Logora, and sponsored by customs assistant Karim Tinde.

The commune of Tcheriba, known for its significant gold potential with several traditional gold panning sites, faces educational challenges, particularly due to school dropouts linked to local economic activities. The olympiads were organized to address these challenges and serve as a lever for keeping students in school.

For the president of the Circle of Excellence, Souhalio Sere, the implementation of these olympiads responds to the need to curb school dropout. "This initiative arose from the desire of teachers to address dropouts linked to gold mining and other factors, by creating an environment of emulation likely to keep students in school," he explained.

The 2026 edition brought together 13 post-primary and secondary schools, involving 110 students, with a particular focus on transition classes, notably 4th, 1st A, and 1st D. The results of the competition are expected on May 14, 2026, with candidates eager to distinguish themselves.

The PDS of Tcheriba appreciated the initiative, emphasizing its importance in combating school dropout and enhancing students' intellectual capabilities. The patron of the edition, Karim Tinde, expressed his commitment as a civic duty and congratulated the organizers for their dedication to education.

Despite the support received, organizers are appealing for enhanced backing from authorities and residents, given the initiative's significance for the local educational future. The ultimate goal is to extend the olympiads to the provincial level, aiming to make the Mouhoun province a center of excellence in education.
