Bale: Municipal authorities have initiated a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic bags in Fara. The special delegation of the municipality organized an awareness day at the central market, led by the departmental water and forestry service and the president of the special delegation, Aloys Ouango.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Emmanuel Ouedraogo, head of the departmental water and forestry service, stated that the initiative aligns with national efforts to protect the environment by discouraging the use of non-degradable bags. The campaign targets the use of plastic bags in retail and consumer goods, emphasizing their ban in these sectors.
The special delegation, in collaboration with environmental services, engaged traders at the central market as part of a broader patriotic commitment effort. The awareness teams visited various vendors, including food stalls, condiment sellers, and butcher shops, promoting the message to eliminate non-degradable plastic bags and adopt sustainable practices.
Authorities aim to reinforce the legal ban on certain plastic bags, advocating for the use of alternative, environmentally friendly options. The market management committee is encouraged to play a role in raising collective awareness about the environmental hazards posed by plastics.
Mr. Ouedraogo highlighted the adverse effects of plastic bags, such as environmental pollution, harm to animals that ingest them, and soil degradation. The campaign promotes the use of degradable plastic bags as a less harmful alternative.
The president of the special delegation commended the stakeholders for their engagement and urged them to adopt environmentally responsible habits. Municipal authorities are hopeful that this initiative will lead to lasting behavioral changes among market vendors and the community.
