Windhoek — MultiChoice Namibia has announced that it will host a two-day film festival on 28 and 29 September 2024, featuring a slate of screenings, discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities aimed at film professionals and enthusiasts. The event, set to occur at the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC), will be free to the public and intends to highlight Namibian storytelling and productions from the company’s local content project, Ombura.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Roger Gertze, Managing Director of MultiChoice Namibia, revealed details about the upcoming festival on Monday. He emphasized that the event would showcase a rich variety of productions under the Ombura project, with content scheduled to be broadcast on MultiChoice platforms like DStv, GOtv, and Showmax in October. The festival aims to celebrate and develop local talent by providing a platform for both seasoned and emerging filmmakers to display their work and gain exposure to international markets.

The inaugural MultiChoice Film Festival is designed to nurture the Namibian film industry by offering a series of interactive experiences that include live music, fun activities, and an open-air film screening on the final day. Gertze highlighted the importance of such events in developing the local industry and providing financial assistance and mentorship to young filmmakers through MultiChoice Namibia’s initiatives.
