Opuwo: Opuwo Rural Constituency Councillor Western Muharukua has highlighted his four years and five months in office as a period marked by service development and community-focused leadership. Muharukua, who also serves as the chairperson of the Kunene Regional Council, was elected through a by-election after the passing of Councillor Uaurikua Kakuva.

According to Namibia Press Agency, speaking at the Government Information Centre in Opuwo, Muharukua detailed several key developments achieved during his tenure. These include the construction of schools at Otjinanua and Okatumba West, a clinic at Okondjombo, and the establishment of the Namibia Correctional Service community garden. He also led efforts to build telecommunication towers at Otjiu-West, Orupembe, and Ondie, which have significantly improved connectivity in the rural areas, as well as the electrification of the police station, schools, and clinics at Otjondeka.

Furthermore, Muharukua directed the drilling of several boreholes in settlements such as Okatumba, Okaaru, Otjjiwe-Tjovakeundu, and Okaoko-Otavi, enhancing the region’s water infrastructure. Another notable achievement is the development of the N.dollars 30 million Ohamaremba-Okangwati water project. Muharukua emphasized the collaborative efforts that led to these accomplishments, stating, “We collaborated as a group and delivered by concentrating on our priorities.”

Despite these advancements, Muharukua acknowledged ongoing challenges, such as inadequate roads, lack of medical facilities, shortage of schools, and lack of electricity in some areas. “I’m not claiming to have done everything. For my constituency, I still need to do more,” he admitted.

Muharukua also urged voters to participate in the upcoming elections on 26 November, emphasizing the importance of their votes: “You are represented by your vote. Vote for the candidate of your choice and in large numbers.” He called on future leaders to serve the community impartially, regardless of political affiliation, religion, or tribe.
